Mara Willis Lamp Shades October 31st, 2018 - 19:47:23
This a lampshade. I got one for each side of the bed so I can show you how I made it so. The next thing you'll need is a bunch of tulle just like that fabric you'd see on a tutu. So what I've got here are squares of tulle well, there. Actually, 12 inches by 18 inches for the lampshade that I'm working on. Basically, you just need it tall enough to touch like wrap the ends inside your lampshade like that and wide enough, so that when you fold it in thirds to get those raw edges in that, it's that you can make your way around the lampshade. So the site that measurements are not scientific at all, but so, like I showed you-you fold this, first of all, I've got this doubled.
This is actually two squares fold it over so that you really get that impact from the tulle. It really benefits from layering. So then I'm going to fold it into thirds so that those raw edges are on the inside like so and then I'll place it on the lampshade. Now I'm going to just use a little hot glue, but you should be very careful because this tool - it's just made of holes. So if it's gonna go straight through use very little hot glue and give it a second before you put your fabric in or else you're just going to be burning yourself like crazy, so remember, a little bit goes a very long way.
Let it get a little bit tacky before you stick your fingers on it, so that it can cool down a bit and if all else fails, you can use this extra overhanging part to kind of guide it into place so that you don't have to touch the glue like that, okay, so now I'm going to take my next piece. You'll need eighteen of these pieces all together. So that's nine of them doubled over so I'll fold it into thirds again and then when I place it, I'm just going to overlap it a little bit like that and then I'll work.
My way, all the way around placing these rectangles onto my left I've gone around the whole time. I've got all of my little tool rectangles in place. So now I'm gonna do the same thing on the bottom. The only trick is that, since on this particular shade, it's wider on the bottom than it is on the top I'm going to have to spread my pieces apart a little you see here. That's where that fold comes in extra handy.
