Meghan Weeks Lamp Shades November 10th, 2018 - 01:46:16
I found this purple lamp at a thrift shop. It also came with a shade so between the lamp I found and the dishes I had collected, I was ready to put my idea to the test after lots of stacking and stacking the dishes. I came up with something that I thought would look great as the lamp base. The next step was to take apart the purple lamp. I remove the base and the support pole. I unscrewed the electrical components and then I laid everything out on the table to see what I had to work with now.
I needed to find the center for all of the dishes, and this is what I came up with at work best for me. I made myself a little stamp. I painted around the edge of the circle, and then I pressed it on paper. I wiped off the paint with a wet paper. Towel laid down some blue painters tape and I folded my circle twice to find the center. Then I used a pen to poke a hole through the center and onto the tape, and then I repeated that step eight times for all of the dishes that I needed to drill.
I used a half inch diamond plate drill bit to make the holes in the dishes when you're drilling through ceramics. You have to use a lot of water. My husband ran the drill press and held the dish in place, while I ad at the water. To my surprise, every plate turned out perfectly, not even one broke, and now here we are making a little mouse hole on the side of the bottom dish. This is where the electrical cord will come out at the base of the lamp I used EES 6000 adhesive to adhere the plates together, beginning with the base.
I added the adhesive around the edge and then press the next dish on top making sure the holes were lining up and then I continued working my way up the lamp gluing and then adding a dish on top here's the lamp glued together. It takes 24 hours for the adhesive to set, it's finally time to paint the lamp first. I used a primer to make sure to cover up all of the color and details, and then I followed up with a high-gloss white spray-paint.
